KULGAM, July 24: In line with the directions of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (J&K LSA), the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan (Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kulgam), today organized an awareness programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act at the South Kashmir Paramedical Nursing College, Kulgam.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the rights and protections available to women under the Act, and to sensitize students and staff about ensuring safe and respectful work environments.

Prominent speakers included Mr. Dar Zubair Altaf (Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel), Ms. Labeeba Alamgir (Assistant LADC), and Ms. Saima Gull (Assistant LADC), who delivered informative lectures on the significance of the Act. They also elaborated on various legal aid schemes launched by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to empower women and other marginalized groups.

The programme was well attended by the staff of DLSA Kulgam, LADCs, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), as well as students and teachers of the nursing college. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Shahjahan Banu, Principal of South Kashmir Paramedical Nursing College, who appreciated the efforts of DLSA in spreading legal awareness.

In a parallel effort, an awareness programme under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative was organized at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Qazigund. The event was moderated by the Chairman of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Qazigund and was attended by panel lawyers, PLVs, students, and teaching staff of the institution. The programme highlighted the importance of educating and empowering the girl child, and reinforced the message of gender equality and social justice.

Both events are part of a continued effort by DLSA Kulgam to promote legal literacy and safeguard the rights of women and children in the district.
