Jammu, Aug 4: In a significant action against corruption, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday trapped and arrested ASI Mohd Akram Choudhary of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jammu, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.
According to the ACB, a complaint was received from a local scrap dealer alleging that ASI Choudhary had demanded ₹1,00,000 from him to avoid arrest and implication in a theft case registered by the RPF. The case was under investigation, during which RPF officials had visited the complainant’s shop. After negotiations, the accused allegedly settled for ₹50,000 and insisted on receiving the first installment of ₹20,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted a discreet verification of the allegations. Upon confirming the demand, a case was registered under FIR No. 16/2025 U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Jammu.
A trap was subsequently laid by a team led by a gazetted officer. ASI Choudhary was caught red-handed while accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe money was recovered from his possession on the spot, and the accused was immediately arrested.
Searches were also carried out at the residence of the accused in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.
