Drass, August 15, : The 79th Independence Day was celebrated in Sub Division Drass, at Govt. Higher Secondary School Drass, where  SDM Drass, Shri Vishal Atri,  JKAS was the chief guest.
     He hoisted the national flag at 10:00 a.m. and saluted at the march past presented by the contingent of Ladakh Police and students of various schools.
        On the occasion, the chief guest wished a happy Independence Day and highlighted the supreme sacrifices of the freedom fighters for the sake of freedom. He also highlighted the contribution of Indian Army during Operation Vijay in 1999.
He paid heartfelt tributes to the national heroes who sacrificed their lives for independence and also honored the soldiers who continue to perform their duties at high altitudes to safeguard the country.
Furthermore, the chief guest enumerated the various developmental works and achievements taking place in the sub division and exhorted the public to extend their cooperation to complete the projects within the targeted time period.
The SDM appreciated the initiative taken by both Local Councillors of LAHDC Kargil and GDC Drass regarding free coaching for KSSRB and LSSSRB aspirants and stressed upon a society free from menace of drug problems.
The Independence Day function was attended by all the sectoral officers of Sub Division Drass, besides a huge public gathering that showed up in the event.
Before the conclusion of the event, the students who took part in the march past  were appreciated with certificates and momentos by chief guest. Some officials were also felicitated with appreciation certificates for their extraordinary services in their respective field.
In the end, the chief guest extended gratitude to the public and all officers of all departments for their active participation in the celebration of the event with zeal and enthusiasm.
