Lolab, Aug 15: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with immense patriotic zeal and vibrant community participation at Government Degree College (GDC) Sogam Lolab here on Friday. The GDC campus reverberated with national pride as the Tricolour was unfurled in a grand ceremonial function, featuring a spirited March Past and a large gathering of dignitaries, students and local residents.

The grand celebration was presided over by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lolab, Mudasir Ahmad, who hoisted the National Flag and took salute on the parade. He was joined by an esteemed lineup of officials, including Tehsildar Sogam Saqib Murtaza, Tehsildar Lalpora Dr. Masroor Gayas, Munsif Judge Sogam Mudasir Yousuf, SDPO Lolab Javid Ahmad Lone, SHO Sogam Javid Ahmad, SOG Inspector Harvinder Singh, and BMO Sogam Dr. Javed Rasool.

The other prominent government functionaries gracing the occasion included ZEO Sogam Mushtaq Ahmad, ZEO Khumriyal Farooq Ahmad, Executive Engineer R&B Lolab Hilal Abassi, Principal GDC Sogam, NT Sogam Mushtaq Ahmad, CDPO Sogam Ab. Qayoom Wani, and SDAO Sogam Javid Ahmad.

The event also witnessed the sizeable participation of political representatives including JKPC Incharge Lolab Dr. Mudasir Akbar Shah, Zonal Coordinator Sogam Bhat Raise, MTS Tehsil Office Sogam Yawar Tariq Shah, alongside teachers, students and field staff from various departments, and enthusiastic local residents.

On the grand occasion, speakers highlighted the profound significance of Independence Day, reflecting on India’s hard-won freedom and the enduring values it represents. They paid heartfelt and solemn tributes to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives during the colonial struggle, honouring their supreme sacrifices as the foundation of the nation’s sovereignty and democratic ideals.

Infused with the spirit of patriotism and unity, the celebrations stood as a testament to the collective pride of the region in India’s journey of independence and progress.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Tehsildar Sogam Saqib Murtaza, who commended the efforts of all involved in making the event a resounding success.
