Pattan, August 21: Doon International School Singhpora played host to a vibrant Inter-School Art Competition-cum-Exhibition 2025, an event that brought together young artistic talents from across the Valley. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from thirteen reputed institutions, turning the campus into a hub of creativity, colour, and cultural expression.
The participating schools included Presentation Convent, Iqbal Memorial (Girls’ and Boys’ Wings), Springdales, Dubai Grand, Linton Hall Rajbagh, Delhi Public School Budgam, G.D. Goenka Srinagar, S.R.K. Welkin Sopore, Birla Open Minds Pampore, Green Valley Srinagar, Doon International School Kupwara, Doon International School Baramulla, and the host institution. Each school was represented by budding artists who brought their imagination to life on canvas, portraying themes ranging from heritage and environment to contemporary social issues.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Zahoor Zargar, former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, graced the occasion. A distinguished academic and eminent artist, Mr. Zargar has mentored generations of students and contributed significantly to the promotion of fine arts in India and abroad. In his address, he lauded the efforts of young participants, encouraging them to continue nurturing their creativity with dedication and perseverance.
The competition was adjudicated by two luminaries of the art world. Mr. Yousuf Naqshbandi, celebrated artist and curator, known for his evocative works and mentorship of aspiring talents, brought his keen eye for detail to the judging process. Alongside him, Mr. Zahoor Kashmiri, an internationally acclaimed sculptor whose works harmoniously blend cultural heritage with modern artistic sensibilities, offered his discerning expertise. Their combined judgment ensured a fair and insightful evaluation of the participants’ creations.
The event was conducted in two categories – Group A and Group B. In Group A, the first prize was clinched by Hina Shawl of DPS Budgam, whose exceptional artwork captivated both judges and audience alike. The second prize was awarded to Sahlah Khan of Presentation Convent, while Salafia Duha of Dubai Grand secured the third position. Consolation prizes were conferred upon Kaleem Ahmad (GD Goenka) and Falak Hameed (DIS Baramulla) for their commendable efforts.
In Group B, the first prize was secured by Hanan Bashir of Green Valley School, whose piece was praised for its originality and technical finesse. M. Hassan of Iqbal Memorial Institute (Boys’ Wing) bagged the second position, while Khair-un-Nisa of DPS Budgam earned third place. Consolation prizes in this category were awarded to Munazah (Birla Open Minds Pampore) and Bazila (Presentation Convent).
The exhibition, showcasing all entries, was widely appreciated by visitors, including educators, parents, and art enthusiasts, who admired the depth of imagination and expressive quality in the students’ works. The event not only celebrated artistic excellence but also fostered healthy competition, inter-school camaraderie, and cultural appreciation.
Speaking on the occasion, the school management expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, judges, and participating institutions for making the programme a resounding success.
