Udhampur, Sept 20: One soldier laid down his life on Saturday during an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in the upper reaches of Doda district and adjoining Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur district on Friday late night.
Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC that a joint team of security forces had launched a search operation following specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the region. As the team closed in, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight.
They said that during the exchange of fire, one soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed. Initial reports suggest that two to three terrorists remain trapped in the area. (KNC)
