Anantnag, Sep 27: Local residents have raised serious concerns over the ongoing tournaments being organized in Rural Area, Shahbad Balla, Uper Belt alleging that the events have become illegal money-making ventures rather than platforms for sports.
As per locals, no official audit or permission is being taken by organizers before hosting these tournaments. The games, which once aimed to promote youth and sports culture, have now turned into a profit-driven business where entry fees and betting dominate the scene.
Moreover, players are left at high risk as no medical facilities, ambulances, or first-aid arrangements are provided on the grounds. “If any player gets injured, there is no system to treat them. Organizers only care about money, not about the safety of participants,” said a local youth.
Residents have urged the authorities to intervene, regulate such events, and ensure that sports remain about talent and fair play rather than illegal earnings.
