Budgam, Sept 27: The Traffic Police have stepped up enforcement measures in central Kashmir, with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Ravinder Paul Singh warning that violators of traffic rules will face strict action. The statement came during a special drive-cum-awareness programme held at Kanihama Magam, where officers sought to sensitize commuters about road safety while simultaneously taking action against offenders.

Supervised by SSP Singh along with DySP Traffic Mujahid Nazir, the initiative combined awareness with enforcement. Authorities seized two bikes and issued 30 challans against vehicles found flouting traffic norms. The campaign stressed that repeated violations would invite stern legal consequences.

“Traffic violations put lives at risk. Drivers must understand that rules are meant for their own safety as well as that of others. The message is clear—follow traffic rules or face strict action,” SSP Singh said while addressing the gathering. He underscored that road safety is a shared responsibility and appealed to commuters for cooperation.

The programme highlighted the dangers of overspeeding, wrong parking, and reckless driving, which continue to be major contributors to road accidents across the Valley. Pamphlets carrying safety guidelines were distributed among locals to encourage greater compliance with traffic regulations.

Particular emphasis was laid on curbing stunt biking, which has been a recurring problem on certain stretches of highways. SSP Singh cautioned that special surveillance teams are monitoring such activities and assured that strict action will be initiated against those indulging in dangerous stunts.

Traffic officials said the department will continue holding similar awareness drives at different locations in coming weeks, with a dual focus on sensitizing the public and penalizing offenders. “The objective is not just to punish but to instill discipline and create safer roads for everyone,” an officer remarked.

Locals present during the awareness camp welcomed the initiative, stating that such measures are necessary to prevent accidents and reduce chaos on busy routes. The Traffic Department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict vigil and ensuring smooth movement of vehicles in Budgam and adjoining districts. [KNT]
