According to locals, the deceased woman, who was reportedly seven months pregnant, was discovered dead in her home under circumstances that her family strongly contests. They allege that she was murdered by her husband and claim she was deliberately hanged to make the incident appear as a case of suicide.

“We believe she was killed by her husband. She was seven months pregnant and could not have taken such a step on her own,” her brother told reporters. He added that the woman is survived by her three-year-old son, making the incident even more tragic for the family.

The grieving relatives staged a protest and appealed to senior police officials, particularly the Superintendent of Police (SP) Handwara, to ensure an impartial and time-bound investigation. “We want the truth to come out and justice for our sister. The culprits must be punished,” one family member said.

Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and an investigation has been launched. Officers assured the family that the probe will be conducted on priority and that all angles, including the allegations made by the deceased’s relatives, will be thoroughly examined.

“The matter is being investigated fairly and strictly in accordance with law. Justice will be ensured,” a police official said.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over Wahipora Langate, with locals expressing shock and demanding justice for the deceased. Many in the area have called upon authorities to speed up the investigation and take exemplary action if the allegations are proven true. [KNT]
