Kulgam, Oct 16: Police on Thursday seized a large quantity of narcotic substances from a residential house in Tubji Frisal area of Kulgam and arrested one person in this connection.
An official told news agency JKNS that Yaripora Police Station registered FIR No. 65/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act against Tariq Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Ismail Malik, a resident of Tubji Frisal, after receiving credible information about storage of narcotic substances at his house.
He said a police team led by IC PP Frisal, SI Rayees Ahmad, along with SHO Yaripora Inspector Sajad Khanday, carried out searches at the accused’s residence in presence of an Executive Magistrate.
During the operation, police recovered 1 kg 938 grams of charas powder, 4 kg 824 grams of charas leaves, 13 kg 31 grams of poppy straw and ₹22,000 cash, the official said.
“The accused was arrested on the spot and further investigation has been set into motion to unearth possible links of the accused with drug trafficking networks,” the official added.
Police said that in recent months, continuous efforts by Yaripora Police and PP Frisal have led to multiple arrests of habitual drug peddlers, which has been widely appreciated by locals.
Authorities urged the public to extend cooperation and report any suspicious activities to help curb the menace of drug trafficking in the region. (JKNS)
