Kupwara: In an atmosphere heavy with grief, scores of mourners gathered on Saturday to offer funeral prayers for Police Inspector Shah Asrar-ul-Haq, a resident of Muqam-e-Shahwali, Drugmulla, who tragically lost his life in the accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station late Friday night.

The officer was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Muqam-e-Shahwali. Heart-rending scenes marked the final farewell, as family members, neighbours, colleagues, and community members came together to honour a dedicated officer whose sudden demise has left a deep void in the area.

Senior police, civil and army officers were present at the funeral to pay their respects. Officials from Kupwara Police, the district administration, and various wings of the Jammu and Kashmir Police stood with the bereaved family, extending condolences and expressing solidarity in their moment of profound loss.

Public representatives, including local leaders and community elders, also attended the last rites. They recalled Inspector Asrar’s professionalism, integrity, and humane approach to policing, qualities that earned him respect across the district.

The mortal remains were carried through the village amid emotional scenes, with mourners raising prayers for the departed soul and acknowledging the sacrifices made by officers who serve on the frontlines.

Inspector Shah Asrar was among nine individuals killed in the high-intensity accidental blast at Nowgam Police Station, which also left several others injured. According to officials, the explosion occurred during the handling of seized explosive material.

As the funeral prayers concluded, a pall of sorrow continued to hang over Muqam-e-Shahwali, where residents remembered Inspector Asrar as a committed and compassionate officer whose life ended while performing his duties.
