Srinagar, Nov 28: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir on Friday said it has filed a chargesheet in a land fraud case, leading to the judicial custody of two accused.
The accused have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Babapora Qazigund, Kulgam and Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Khandipahari, Harnag in Anantnag. The chargesheet was produced before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag.
In a statement issued to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Crime Branch said the case originated from a written complaint alleging that Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, while posted as Patwari Halqa Khandipahari, entered into a criminal conspiracy with the complainant’s brothers to fraudulently mutate land under Khewat Nos. 05 and 07 at Khandipahari Harnag.
“Despite the land being under litigation and a status quo order of the court reflected in revenue records, the Patwari allegedly facilitated the sale of a portion of the disputed land by concealing material facts and preparing fraudulent mutations,” the statement said.
The investigation also found that co-accused Mohammad Yousuf Dar procured a fake gift deed purportedly executed by his mother, while the individuals listed as witnesses denied their signatures during the probe.
The complainant had further alleged that the Patwari demanded money for issuing revenue extracts and that no departmental action was taken despite approaching senior authorities.
According to the Crime Branch, the allegations were substantiated during enquiry, leading to the registration of FIR No. 45/2015 under sections 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC and 5(2) PC Act. After completion of the investigation, the chargesheet has been filed for judicial determination.
The agency added that both accused have been remanded to judicial lock-up by the Hon’ble Court. It reaffirmed its commitment to acting against fraud and economic crimes and urged the public to remain vigilant—(KNO)
