Srinagar: In a blistering front-page–worthy statement, JDU Party President G.M. Shaheen has torn into Omar Abdullah’s recent confession of feeling “powerless,” branding it a dramatic U-turn, a collapse of credibility, and an indictment of his own politics.
Shaheen reminded the public that he had warned a full year ago that “a Chief Minister in a Union Territory is constitutionally toothless.”
“Yet Omar Abdullah,” Shaheen said, “chose to ridicule this fact — until the truth cornered him and forced him into belated honesty.”
Shaheen questioned the audacity of a leader who now admits to powerlessness but previously issued grandiose promises that no UT Chief Minister could legally deliver Free power to households .

“If Omar Abdullah knew J&K would remain a UT, then these promises were not leadership — they were deceit. On what authority did he imagine he could deliver benefits he had no constitutional power to sanction?” Shaheen asked.“And if he truly knew the limitations of a UT, why did he beg for ‘more powers’? Demanding powers you know you will never receive is not statesmanship — it is political theatre designed to mislead the unsuspecting. It is rhetoric masquerading as governance.”
Shaheen described Omar Abdullah’s shifting stance as “a glaring study in inconsistency — a cocktail of panic, opportunism, and intellectual evasiveness.”
He concluded with a stark reminder for the people of Jammu & Kashmir:
“This region deserves leaders anchored in constitutional truth, not those who discover reality only after their own false assurances collapse.
