New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir bowling all-rounder Auqib Nabi scripted a remarkable moment at the IPL auction, securing a maiden IPL contract with Delhi Capitals for ₹8.40 crore, an astonishing 28 times his base price of ₹30 lakh.
Delhi Capitals opened the bidding at the base price and maintained control as the amount crossed ₹1 crore, prompting Rajasthan Royals to exit early. Royal Challengers Bengaluru entered the fray at ₹1.1 crore, engaging in a competitive bidding duel with Delhi as the price surged past ₹2 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad briefly joined the contest at ₹2.2 crore, but Delhi Capitals held firm through successive raises, eventually outlasting all challengers to clinch Nabi at ₹8.40 crore.
The 29-year-old has earned plaudits for his ability to swing the new ball and his growing effectiveness with the old one. His strong auction showing follows impressive performances in domestic cricket, including the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and a standout start to the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season.
In the Ranji Trophy, Nabi emerged as the only seamer among the top five wicket-takers in the first half of the season. He claimed 29 wickets in nine innings, including three five-wicket hauls. His exceptional 7 for 24 against Rajasthan played a key role in Jammu and Kashmir’s qualification for the knockout stage.
Nabi’s IPL signing marks a significant milestone for both the player and cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the region’s growing presence on the national stage.
