Anantnag, Dec 25: Security forces on Thursday launched cordon and search operations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag after an active Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was spotted walking through a local market area.
Following the sighting, quick reaction teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF were rushed to the area. An intense search operation is currently underway in the Dangerpora and Qazibagh areas of the town.
The terrorist has been identified as Mohammad Lateef Bhat, a resident of Khrewan in Kulgam district. According to details available with security agencies, Bhat is the son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat
Security officials said Bhat had joined Lashkar-e-Taiba’s shadow outfit, the Kashmir Revolution Army (KRA), in November. A poster released by the outfit mentions his date of joining as November 17, 2025.
A day before, security forces had busted a terrorist hideout during a cordon and search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
During the search operation, security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including four Chinese grenades, 19 rounds of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) ammunition and 46 rounds of AK rifle ammunition. After the recovery, the hideout was destroyed in a controlled explosion to prevent any future use.
