Kargil, January 11, 2026: A delegation from the Ladakh Olympic Association (LOA), Kargil, led by Vice President Mr. Ibrahim Firdous, today called on the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri Ashish Kundra, IAS, during his official visit to Kargil.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, highlighting key issues related to sports development in the region.

During the interaction, Mr. Firdous briefed the Chief Secretary on the overall sports scenario in both Kargil and Leh districts.

Detailed discussions were held on the availability and affordability of sports equipment in Ladakh.

The delegation pointed out that essential equipment for sports such as Archery, Ice Hockey, Snow Skiing, and Horse Polo is extremely expensive and often beyond the reach of local youth.

Owing to these constraints, many talented sportspersons from the region are unable to compete effectively with athletes from other states.

The Vice President further informed that the Ladakh Olympic Association, Kargil, has been actively working towards the promotion of sports and encouraging youth participation since its establishment on July 7, 2014. The Association regularly organizes and supports various sports disciplines, including Volleyball, Football, Handball, Archery, Snow Skiing, Ice Hockey, Marathon, and Athletics.

The Chief Secretary, Shri Ashish Kundra, assured full support to the youth of the region and stated that all possible measures would be taken on a priority basis to strengthen sports infrastructure and ensure the availability of necessary facilities and equipment.

The Ladakh Olympic Association, Kargil, expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Secretary for his visit to Kargil district and for his positive assurance towards the development of sports and youth empowerment in the region.
