Anantnag, Apr 22: The District Administration Anantnag has announced a Civil Defence Air Raid Mock Drill along with a brief blackout exercise to be conducted on April 23 as part of emergency preparedness measures.
As per an official notice issued by Deputy Commissioner (District Magistrate) Anantnag, a copy of which is in the possession of news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the mock drill will take place at 3:30 PM, while a district-wide blackout will be observed from 8:00 PM to 8:10 PM.
Officials said the exercise is aimed at enhancing public awareness and testing response mechanisms in case of emergency situations such as air raids or crisis scenarios. The drill will help authorities assess coordination among various departments and evaluate the readiness of both the administration and the public.
The administration has advised residents to strictly follow guidelines during the blackout period. People have been asked to switch off all lights and sources of illumination including inverters, solar lights, mobile flashlights and vehicle lights immediately after the siren at 8:00 PM. Citizens have also been directed to draw curtains and close windows to prevent any light leakage.
Authorities said that there is no cause for alarm, as the exercise is only a mock drill. Residents have been urged to take special care of elderly persons, children, and those with health concerns to avoid panic or distress.
“All emergency and essential services will remain fully functional during the exercise,” the administration said, appealing for public cooperation to ensure the success of the drill. (KDC)
