Budgam, May 15,  Budgam Police on Friday claimed to have solved a blind murder and kidnapping case within 12 hours of the incident, arresting the accused and rescuing a kidnapped minor girl safely from Srinagar.

Police in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com said that, Police Station Khansahib received information during the wee hours at around 3:05 am regarding an accident at Chek Sheera area of Khansahib, where an unidentified vehicle had allegedly run over a woman pedestrian, resulting in her death.

Following the incident, Police Station Khansahib registered FIR No. 96/2026 under Sections 125A and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and initiated investigation into the case.

However, during the course of investigation, police said it emerged that the deceased woman had actually been murdered while trying to prevent the kidnapping of her 15-year-old daughter.

“During investigation, it surfaced that the minor daughter of the deceased had been kidnapped and the murder took place when the deceased attempted to stop the accused from abducting the girl,” police said.

Acting swiftly, a special police team led by the SDPO Khansahib launched an intensive investigation. Police said multiple CCTV footages and technical evidence were analysed to trace the accused.

“Through sustained efforts, the accused was traced and arrested from Parimpora area of Srinagar, while the kidnapped minor girl was rescued safely within 12 hours of the incident,” the statement said.

Police added that relevant sections pertaining to murder and kidnapping were subsequently incorporated into the case, while further investigation is underway.

Budgam Police said the swift detection of the case reflects the prompt response, professional coordination and dedicated efforts of the investigating teams in ensuring public safety and bringing offenders to justice. (KDC)
