An official from the Traffic Department told news agency JKNS that traffic has been stopped from both Jammu and Srinagar sides as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

He said heavy rainfall along the entire stretch of the highway has triggered multiple shooting stone incidents and mudslides, making the road unsafe for vehicular movement.

The official advised commuters not to undertake any journey on NH-44 until the weather improves and the highway is declared safe for traffic.

He further urged the public to verify the latest road status through the official Traffic Police social media handles, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Traffic Control Units (TCUs), before planning their travel.

The Traffic Department has also shared helpline numbers for assistance: TCU Jammu: 0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103; TCU Srinagar: 0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, 103; TCU Ramban: 9419993745, 1800-180-7043; and TCU Udhampur: 8491928625. (JKNS)
