Sangam level expected to recede in coming hours; slight rise likely at Ram Munshibagh, Asham and Wular as runoff moves downstream
Srinagar, July 24: The Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, Kashmir, on Friday night said that despite a marginal rise in the River Jhelum following rainfall in the southern catchment, the river is expected to remain within manageable limits across its entire network.
According to an official update issued at 9:30 pm, as per news agency JKNS, moderate rainfall occurred for a few hours during the morning in the southern catchment of the Jhelum Basin, resulting in a slight increase in the water level at Sangam.
The department said the water level at Sangam is expected to begin receding during the coming hours.
It further stated that a marginal increase in the water level at Ram Munshibagh in Srinagar is expected during the night. Water levels at Asham and Wular Lake are also likely to rise gradually as the runoff continues to propagate downstream through the river system.
The I&FC Department, however, clarified that based on the present hydrological situation and field reports, the River Jhelum is expected to remain within manageable limits throughout the river network, with no flood threat anticipated. (JKNS)
