8th District Pulwama Soft Tennis Championship wraps up in Tral; ‘My Youth My Pride’ summer football activity held in Kulangam

Srinagar, Aug 7 : The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council conducted two major sporting activities across Kashmir, with the conclusion of the 8th District Pulwama Soft Tennis Championship in Tral and a special summer football programme in Kupwara drawing enthusiastic participation from young athletes.

As per news agency JKNS, J&K Sports council, marked the successful conduct of two significant sporting activities in the Kashmir division, reaffirming its commitment to grassroots sports development and youth engagement across the Union Territory.
8th District Pulwama Soft Tennis Championship 2026-27 Concludes at Tral

The 8th District Pulwama Soft Tennis Championship 2026-27 concluded today with a closing ceremony at the Indoor Sports Complex, Tral, Pulwama. The championship was organized by the District Pulwama Soft Tennis Association under the banner of the Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association, affiliated with the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India (ASTFI), in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.

The two-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from players across the district, who displayed exceptional skill, discipline and sportsmanship. The tournament served as an important platform for identifying promising players who will represent District Pulwama at higher-level competitions.

The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Rajesh Kumar, SDPO Tral, as Chief Guest. Mr. Shakir Ashraf, General Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association, and Mr. Bashir Ahmad, Manager, Sports Stadium Tral, Pulwama, attended as Guests of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar congratulated the organizers on the successful conduct of the championship and appreciated the dedication of the young athletes, encouraging them to strive for excellence and uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship. Mr. Shakir Ashraf highlighted the growing popularity of Soft Tennis in Jammu & Kashmir and assured the Association’s continued support for nurturing young talent. Mr. Bashir Ahmad applauded the efforts of the organizers and emphasised the importance of regular sporting activities in shaping disciplined and healthy youth.

Medals, trophies and certificates were presented to the winners, runners-up and outstanding performers across various categories. The organizers expressed gratitude to the J&K Sports Council, the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India, officials, coaches, volunteers, parents, media personnel and all participants for their support. The District Pulwama Soft Tennis Association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Soft Tennis at the grassroots level and providing young athletes greater opportunities to excel at state and national levels.

Special Summer Activities under My Youth My Pride 2026-2027 at P/F Kulangam, Kupwara
As part of the ongoing My Youth My Pride 2026-2027 initiative of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, a Special Summer Activities Football Programme was successfully organized at P/F Kulangam, Kupwara on August 6, 2026.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, and Ms. Krupali, Divisional Sports Officer (DSO), Kashmir, with the aim of promoting sports culture, encouraging youth participation and nurturing sporting talent, particularly in remote and border areas of the Union Territory.

The event witnessed the participation of more than 120 young football players, reflecting the growing interest of youth in sports. A dedicated team of eight officials ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

Mr. Showket Ahmad, I/C Manager Baramulla, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Mr. Ajaz Hassan, In-Charge, Indoor Stadium Handwara, Kupwara, was also present and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for their commitment to promoting football and creating meaningful sporting opportunities for young athletes.

The programme was organized under the supervision of Mr. Farooq Ahmad Bhat, In-Charge, P/F Kulangam, Kupwara; Mr. Haroon Rashid, Football Mentor; Mr. Abid Hussain, Kho Kho Coach Mentor; Mr. M. Rafiq, NYC; Mr. Imran Ahmad, NYC; Mr. Javid Ahmad, NYC; Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Security Guard; and Mr. Gowher Ahmad, Sweeper.

The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council for its continuous support in promoting sports and youth development across the Union Territory.

Both events reaffirm the Council’s commitment to providing quality sporting opportunities at the district and grassroots level, and to inspiring young athletes to lead healthy, disciplined and active lives through sport. (JKNS)
