Srinagar, Aug 31: Senior Congress leader and MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmad Mir met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Monday evening and is understood to have discussed the issue of joining the council of ministers in J&K with him.
Sources disclosed to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the issue of joining the Cabinet in Jammu & Kashmir also came up for discussion during the meeting, besides other political and organisational matters.
In a post on X, Mir said they discussed various organisational and political matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
“Had a productive meeting with Rahul Gandhi and discussed important organisational and political matters concerning Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. We discussed ways to further strengthen the Congress organisation and advance our political and organisational agenda with renewed focus and determination,” he said.
Mir is reportedly miffed over Tariq Karra’s statement ruling out the option of joining the Cabinet when the High Command was yet to take a final call on the matter.
Talking to KNO over phone, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, said on Monday that the Congress has taken a stand that it will not join the Cabinet until statehood is restored. He, however, added that any decision on altering the position rests with the party High Command.
“The High Command will take a decision,” he said when asked whether the party would join the government.
He reiterated that the party’s position is not to join the Cabinet until statehood is restored. “Any alteration in that has to be decided by the party High Command,” he added.
Sources disclosed to KNO that the High Command is weighing the pros and cons of joining the Council of Ministers and is expected to convey its final decision on the matter to the National Conference soon—(KNO)
