Srinagar, Nov 20, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday summoned a People’s Democratic Party senior leader, Rouf Bhat to Police station Shergarhi and asked him to stay present in the PS till elections of Srinagar Municipal Corporation for the post of Mayor are over.

While talking to news agency KDC, Rouf Bhat said that he was summoned on Friday to PS Shergarhi and was asked there by the police officer to ensure his stay at the PS from 8 am to 8 pm till the elections of SMC are over.

According to Rouf when he tried to know the reasons behind his enforced stay, the Police officer told him that orders were from higher ups.

He termed the summoning as sheer injustice and against one’s freedom of liberty, and said that these tactics by the government will not work and will have severe consequences.

Meanwhile, Reliable sources told news agency KDC that Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), a conglomerate of different political parties is all set to put up its own candidate to fight the Mayor elections of SMC.

A member from ‘PAGD’ on the condition of anonymity told news agency KDC that the alliance have decide to take part in upcoming SMC Mayor elections. He said that summoning of leaders is part of tactics played by the government to refrain our alliance from contesting elections.

People’s Democratic Party Chief, Mehbooba Mufti questioned the summoning of the party leader and asked the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is this going to be the new norm of elections in J&K.

Pertinently, after remaining vacant for more than five months after former Mayor Junaid Mattu was removed as the Mayor, SMC on Thursday finally notified 25th November as the date to conduct election for the post of Mayor of the corporation. KDC
