Over 34 per cent polling recorded in 3 panchayat block till 1 am

After a dull start, polling picked up in three panchayat blocks in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district during the first phase of district development council elections on Saturday.

An official told KNO that the polling started picking up in the final hours of the day after a dull start in the morning.

He said that polling is underway in three panchayat blocks including Gurez, Tulail and Sunbal blocks for DDC elections.

The official said that due to cold weather conditions there was a dull start in the early hours of polling today.

He said that several villages in Gurez valley are still under thick cover of snow after heavy snowfall in the area, however, the voters turned up in large numbers to cast their votes as the day progressed.

The official said that 34. 18 per cent polling was recorded in the three blocks till 1 am. “40. 13 per cent polling has been recorded in Sumbal block, 38. 52 per cent in Tulail block and 22. 29 per cent in Gurez block till 1 am,” the official said.

He said that the final hour of polling is in progress in three blocks and there has been no untoward incident during the polling anywhere in the district.
