A number of aspirants for banking associate job in Jammu and Kashmir bank staged a protest here at Srinagar, seeking re-examination of those candidates who missed their examination due to snowfall in the morning shift on Sunday. “We could not reach the venue of examination on time due to snowfall as roads were clogged with snow early in the morning.

We were not allowed to the centres on account of being late,” said Yasir Altaf Zargar, one among the protesters who assembled at Press enclave here. “There should be re-examination for all those aspirants who missed the examination scheduled in the morning shift,” he said as others seconded him.

Most of the candidates missed the exam had come from far flung areas. “we should not be faulted with. It is weather which led to disturbances as consequences of which we missed the exam. Had there been no unexpected snow, we would have reached the examination venue before time let alone on the time.

The situation in the morning at around 8 to 8:45 a.m. is compeletely different that what is now,” the protesters said as they demanded the re-examination for all the candidates who could not make it the venues due to snow. “we are even ready to write exam today,” they added.

A number of candidates from different districts of the Valley told GNS that they could reach the examination venue due the accumulation of snow on the roads.

Some those who made to the centres said that they also faced difficulties in reaching the venues. “My examination centre was located at Kite Polytechnic Vawoosa Rangreth and reaching there was extremely cumbersome,” said an aspirant, “As soon I reached near a diversion leading to the venue, there was heavy accumulation of snow on the road and I had to leave my vehicle midway as the slopes were extremely difficult to drive through due to slippery conditions.” Several candidates might have failed to reach the venue even as better arrangements were in place at the venue.”The aspirant said that reaching the venue was problem not the arrangements in place.

When contacted, chairman J&K Bank R.K. Chhibber told GNS that examinations centers are located in district headquarters at Srinagar, Sopore and Budgam district. “Traffic is normal. First session is already over while heating and other facilities (at the venues) are above par,” he said.
