Koul was interacting with media personnel after presiding over the Road Safety Program organized by IFFCO-TOKIO (General Insurance) in collaboration with Radio Mirchi and Traffic Paathshala. He responded to multiple questions from Journalists about the condition of traffic in Srinagar city.

“Remove bottlenecks, follow traffic rules, remove street vendors from roads and I will provide you a better traffic system. Even at many places security bunkers obstruct traffic,” he said.

He said various measures need to be taken to improve the traffic system in Srinagar. “These measures include filling pot holes, macadamizing the patches, realigning the vendors, installing main hole covers, covering the drains, erection of intelligent traffic signal system and signage, removal of encroachments from bus stops and parking spaces on roads.”

SSP Traffic Srinagar City in response to a question said that it is not necessary to deploy traffic cops everywhere. “Manpower is for supervision not for obstruction. People have to follow traffic rules and manage traffic. Our cops are there to stop violations,” he said.

Javaid Koul as per news agency KNT said that traffic jams are found across the world but effective management and civic sense play a key role in minimizing this mess.

“There is a dire need to remove bottlenecks for the better traffic management and smooth functioning of traffic in the city.

He appealed commuters to follow traffic rules and park their vehicles in parking lots. (KNT)
