In order to boost health and dynamism of the young budding generation, Department of Physical Education, Government Degree College, Kokernag organised a road-race for both male and female students of the College on April 10, 2021 in which Thirty-one male students and seventeen female students took part in the race. Male participants started racing from Zalangam Kokernag and ended their race in the premises of the College while as females started racing from Kokernag Garden up to the College premises. Before the commencement of the race, male participants were given general instructions by Amir Majeed Bhat, Physical Training Instructor of the College while as Prof. Javid Majeed Wani, A. P. Environmental Science provided general instructions to the female participants. Male students were flagged off by the worthy Principal of the College, Prof. M. Shafi Malik and the females students were flagged off by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Wani, senior-most faculty of the College.
The participants were received by the worthy Principal of the College along with his team of teaching faculty and the non-teaching staff. The reception-cum-award distribution ceremony took place in the Chinar Park of the College. Before the distribution of awards among the winning participants, Dr. Aqib Fayaz, Medical Officer SDH Kokernag apprised the students/participants vis-a-vis the health-cum-psychological benefits of such events and how these events are beneficial for the society in the long run.
He also gave demonstration about CPR technique for the benefit of the participants.
Burhan Wani (Semester III), Adil Hussain (Semester V) and Muneer Aslam (Semester V) respectively got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions among the male students while as Ulfat Shareef (Semester II), Shazia Rashid (Semester II) and Suraya Farooq (Semester II) respectively got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions among the female students. The worthy Principal of the College distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winners. Finally, the worthy Principal of the College thanked all the departments for their co-operation in the smooth conduct of the race especially police and health departments.
