SHO, Munshi shifted after notorious drug peddler flees from police custody in Bandipora

‘Gross negligent act, no place for unprofessionalism’: DIG North Kashmir

Srinagar, : A station House Officer (SHO) and a head constable (Munshi) of Police Station Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora were transferred after a notorious drug peddler escaped from the Police custody on Wednesday.

Sources told KDC that a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Younis Malla, son of Mohd Yaqoob Malla, a resident of Village Shilvat, escaped from the custody of police station Sumbal and was later rearrested by the Police team headed by SDPO Sumbal Surinder Mohan in Shadipora area on Thursday.

Inspector Sajad Ahmad and head constable Ab Hamid of the station were transferred to the District Police line Bandipora with immediate effect, reads an order by SSP Bandipora a copy of which lies with news Agency KDC.

According to the order, Inspector Mohammad Salim and head constable Ab Rahim were posted accordingly in police station Sumbal in place of transferred officers.

DIG north Kashmir range Sujit Kumar told that it is a gross negligent act, no place for unprofessionalism and law will take its own course.

He said facts are under investigation, an FIR has also been registered against the drug peddler.

Meanwhile, SSP Bandipora Mohammad Zahid told that the drug peddler has been rearrested and was slapped with additional FIR for escaping from police custody.

He said that the notorious drug peddler was selling drugs to youths of the area at exorbitant rates and making them drug addicts.

FIR No. 55/2021 and an additional FIR for escaping under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Sumbal and further investigation has been taken up, SSP added.
