Centre delegates powers to LG Ladakh under 2 laws

Srinagar : The President of India has empowered the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Union Territory to exercise the powers and functions vested with State Governments under two central laws within the Union Territory.

The Union Home Ministry on Monday issued two separate notifications to empower the LG to exercise the powers vested with State governments under The Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act and “The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act.

“In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution, the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the Union territory of Ladakh shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, also exercise the powers and discharge the functions of the State Government under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 (4 of 2006) within the said Union territory,” read the notification , a copy of which is lying with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

A similar notification was also issued by the Centre to delegate powers exercised by State governments under The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, to LG Ladakh.

“In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution, the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the Union territory of Ladakh shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, exercise the powers and discharge the functions of the Appropriate Government under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 (7 of 2014) within the said Union territory,” the notification further states.
