Many Christians and people from other communities today gathered at 125 year old Saint Luke’s church in Srinagar on the occasion of Christmas day.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Father of church Eric said, “that he is happy that after decades this church will have prayers again for the peace and prosperity for the world”.

“Now a days we only see chaos throughout but we can’t see love anywhere, today we are giving a message to spread love and brotherhood all across the world,” he said.

Notably the 125-year-old church situated in Dalgate area of Srinagar was shut for 30 years after conflict erupted in the valley in the 1990s. Church was in dilapidated condition, however, the administration has restored the main structure of the worship place.

Commissioner SMC Athar Amin after visiting the church on the occasion of Christmas said “I congratulate all Christian community on the occasion of Christmas Day. It is a special day for Srinagar as after a gap of 30 years this historic church will reverberate with prayers. This is really a proud moment for us.”

“I also congratulated the whole team of smart city for the amazing work they have done for the restoration of the church. This structure is a landmark of our city and we all are proud of it,” he said.

“This place is obviously a holy place for Christians but it is also a source of happiness for other communities as well, as maximum presence of other communities can be seen today in this historic church, “ Athar said—(KNO)
