Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Mudasir Muran nephew of Mohammad Yousuf Muran said that his family have carved masterpieces which got recognized internationally for centuries.

“We have carved Saddam Hussian which later was presented in Iraq. We also made Jamia Masjid Srinagar which we later gifted to Mirwize Umer Farooq,” Mudasir said.

“Additionally we have carved many more pieces which got recognised internationally like typical Kashmiri Kangdi and sculpture of Saint George,” he said.

“This art will remain alive only if we save artists. We appeal to the government to provide support to this art. We can engage thousands of people in the business, and can work towards unemployment,” he said.

“If administration is serious about development in Kashmir in the form of Naya Kashmir then the government didn’t have applied 18 percent GST. Artists should be exempted from GST, we are labourers not from the elite class who can afford these taxes,” he said—(KNO)
