The 2nd phase of “My Town My Pride (MTMP)–2.0 announced by the UT Administration and scheduled to be held on 5th & 6th December, 2022 is a sequel to the successful completion and overwhelming participation of people in the first phase of MTMP programme, the Government has announced the second phase. “The objective of the programme is to strengthen the connect between the government and the people and ensuring governance at their doorsteps” said, Shri Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary to Government, Housing & Urban Development. He also said that the objective is to ensure that developmental initiatives are built with active public participation and on the feedback received from the grassroots to make these more result oriented, besides registering the grievances of the public for redressal by different departments which will help us to move towards the concept of ‘Aspirational Towns’.

Government has deployed senior officers who will reach out to each Urban Local Body in J&K, where they will stay for 02 days on 5th & 6th December to review the overall developmental works and implementation of different government schemes in the towns. The visiting officers will hold interactive sessions with line departments, general public, trade associations, resident welfare associations, NGOs and other community based organizations, obtain their feedback and register their grievances.

During such interactions the visiting officers will lay special emphasis on online services, education, nutrition and health of children, empowerment of women, general cleanliness, solid waste management and water conservation, public feedback and grievances. Progress of different Centrally Sponsored Schemes of H&UDD like PM SVANidhi, PMAY-U, DAY-NULM, SBM-U 2.0 & AMRUT 2.0 and of other departments will be reviewed during the programme.

In an endeavour to make MTMP 2.0 more effective by making people aware about this programme and to ensure large scale public participation on 5th & 6th of December, a week-long awareness programme under ‘Jan Abhiyan’ as a preparatory phase to the programme is being observed from 28th November to 4th December, 2022 in all Municipal Councils/ Committees of the UT. Under ‘Jan Abhiyan’, all the departments have been directed to organize and conduct special activities and awareness camps in coordination with various stakeholders.

During the preparatory phase of MTMP 2.0 programme, under the Jan Abhiyan initiative, different awareness activities and special camps are being organized by Urban Local Bodies and other departments/ stakeholders to sensitize people about different welfare schemes of the government to ensure positive outcome of ‘public connect’ initiative. The awareness about the programme is being created through print and electronic media, different social media platforms, hoardings, digital screens, wall paintings, installation of stalls and door to door visits to different wards said, Ms. Mathoora Masoom, Director Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir.
Besides, all the Municipal Councils/ Committees are set to make their respective UBLs Encroachment Free, Single Use Plastic, Garbage Free and Un-authorized Hoardings Free with the involvement of people. Special sanitation drives, with focus on cleaning of all Community and Public toilets are also being carried out during the preparatory phase of the programme, besides creating an atmosphere of festivity in the urban areas.
To oversee the preparations for the MTMP 2.0 and to ensure successful conduct of the activities under the ‘Jan Abhiyan’ initiative, monitoring/coordination teams have been constituted who visit different Urban Local Bodies of Kashmir division in the preparatory phase.
We hope that more and more people are involved in the Jan Abhiyan, get benefit from different government schemes of the government and register their feedback during this programme so that this ‘Urban Connect’ initiative of the government will be an important milestone in achieving long term objective of grassroots democracy in our urban areas, said the Director.
The MTMP programme will surely bring people closer to the government and people will become part of the developmental works and schemes. We are thankful to the LG Administration for this initiative of governance at the doorsteps of the people. The elected public representatives of Urban Local Bodies are on the forefront to ensure coordination between different departments and participation of general public in MTMP 2.0 programme said, Mohd.
