Srinagar, Dec 23: The fire incidents have been on the rise in Jammu and Kashmir during the winter months, with residents using a variety of appliances and traditional technologies to stay warm. However, these appliances and technologies should be used with caution, as many of the homes in the valley have wooden bases and wooden paneling, which can be easily ignited.

Briefing on recent fire incidents in the valley, Dr. Tasaduk Ahmad Hakim, director of Fire and Emergency services Kashmir, talking to Kashmir Bulletin–(KB), said that in Kashmir, the use of electric appliances such as heaters and boilers should be done with proper precautions, and residents should avoid overloading them. He advises caution when using wood and fuel in hamam’s, or traditional steam baths, and recommends checking the temperature before adding more fuel.

“For those using liquified petroleum gas (LPG) heaters, it is important to have proper ventilation to ensure proper oxygen levels and to prevent the build-up of gas. Dr. Hakim also advises, against using multiple appliances at the same time, such as an electric blanket and a hot water bag, as this can lead to short circuits and increase the risk of fire,” he said.

“The residents of Jammu and Kashmir are urged to use heating appliances and technologies with caution and to follow proper safety precautions in order to prevent fire incidents,” said Dr. Hakim.

In the recent fire incident in Srinagar, “the firefighting team has been working tirelessly to control and extinguish the fire. They are making every effort to prevent the fire from spreading further and causing more damage. In order to do their job effectively, it is important for residents to provide them with the necessary support and cooperation,” he said.

Specifically, “Dr. Hakim has requested that residents to, show them where to find water sources and stay away from the fire site. This is for the safety of both the residents and the firefighters, as the fire site can be dangerous and it is important to maintain a safe distance. By following these guidelines, residents can help the team perform their duties more efficiently and effectively.”

Overall, “it is important for everyone to work together in times of crisis, and the firefighting team is grateful for the support and cooperation of the community,” said Dr. Tasaduk Ahmad Hakim. (Kashmir Bulletin–KB)
