Srinagar, Jul 17: To keep the communal harmony alive, scores of Sikhs from Mehjoor Nagar had made arrangements to distribute water and other facilities amongst the mourners on Youm-e-Ashoora, the day when Imam Husain (AS) along with 72 companions were martyred in Karbala, Iraq some 1400 years ago as per Islamic calendar 10th of Muharram, 61 A.H.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Varundeep Singh from Mehjoor Nagar, who was distributing water amongst the mourners at Zadibal, said that he along with his four friends have reached here this afternoon to share their bit to keep the communal harmony alive.

“We are five people from Mehjoor Nagar here, who have taken money out of their pocket to buy water bottles and other eatables for the mourners today. We are trying to give a message that there is a need to stay united as united we stand and divided we fall. The efforts are going to divide us, but we should keep them away by staying united,” he said.

Singh added that “Guru Nanak Ji has taught us that all people are equal and we are here to show the world that we are united. In Kashmir, we have seen communal harmony and such occasions are providing us a platform to show that we are united.”

He later appealed to the people from different religions and sects to stay united.

Pertinently, thousands of mourners participated in the Zuljinah procession today, which started from Gulshan Bagh Bota Kadal and culminated at Zadibal Imam Bargah.

Dozens of stalls were erected by the people to distribute water and other facilities to the mourners—(KNO)
