Srinagar, Dec 14: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Saturday while chairing a meeting asked bureaucrats to forget the way of working of the past 10 years and work with what he termed as “efficient approach” with the democratically elected dispensation of the erstwhile state.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Correspondent, Choudhary reviewed snow clearance preparations in view of impending snowfall predictions.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he emphasized the need for a proactive and efficient approach to ensure essential services remain uninterrupted during the winter season. “We have instructed officers that they are the face of the government. We expect them to forget the inefficiencies of the past decade and work with a fresh approach to ensure that people receive the facilities they need.”

The meeting witnessed participation from Deputy Commissioners across Jammu and Kashmir, with some joining virtually. Representatives from key departments, including Public Works (PWD) and Mechanical Engineering, were also present. The discussions focused on ensuring timely snow clearance operations, maintaining water and electricity supply, and addressing public grievances promptly during the harsh winter months.

Choudhary also highlighted the importance of snowfall for farmers, particularly for water availability, but stressed the need to manage its impact effectively. He said, “We pray to God, to Allah, that snowfall happens this year, but only to the extent that we can manage it.”

“Despite the Durbar offices shifting to Jammu, the CM is deeply concerned about the people in Kashmir and has directed us to ensure no one feels neglected,” Choudhary said.

The two-hour meeting involved detailed presentations from officials of both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. “Participants resolved to streamline coordination among departments to mitigate disruptions caused by snowfall. Efforts are being made to avoid difficulties related to water, electricity, firewood, and other essentials.”

“All the DCs and MLAs present have taken responsibility to ensure a smooth winter experience for people in affected districts. This is a government elected by the people, and we are fully alert to their needs,” Choudhary said, adding that steps are being taken to rebuild public trust in governance—(KNO)
