Fatimah Rasool Beigh, born on October 12, 1933, in a noble and reputed family in Srinagar, was a beacon of hope and compassion. From an early age, she showcased an innate interest in religious affairs, social service, and uplifting the underprivileged. Her journey was marked by immense challenges, but her unwavering determination and deep commitment to humanity have left an indelible mark on society.
Fatimah’s life took a pivotal turn when she married Gh. Rasool Beigh, a renowned trade union leader, who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of employees and the marginalized. Together, they shared a vision of service and societal upliftment. However, tragedy struck when Gh. Rasool Beigh passed away at a young age, leaving Fatimah to shoulder the responsibility of raising their children alone.
Despite the profound loss, Fatimah exemplified resilience. She nurtured her children with values of empathy, humanism, and selflessness. Her efforts bore fruit, as her children grew to become respected members of society, embodying the same principles she cherished. Among her sons, Ishtiyaq Rasool Beigh followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a prominent trade union leader and President of the NGEWA SKIMS. Under his mother’s guidance, he dedicated his life to continuing their family’s mission of serving humanity.
To institutionalize their commitment to societal welfare, Fatimah Rasool Beigh, alongside her son Ishtiyaq, established the G.R. Memorial Trust. The trust formally began its journey on December 11, 1997, commemorating the first death anniversary of Gh. Rasool Beigh. Over the past 27 years, this trust has become a cornerstone of community service, reaching out to the most vulnerable and underserved.
The G.R. Memorial Trust has undertaken remarkable initiatives:
– Healthcare Camps: Over 100 free medical camps have been organized in remote areas across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. These camps provide free consultations with renowned doctors, free medicines, and diagnostic tests.
– Blood Donation Drives:The trust has held more than 27 blood donation camps to address emergencies and save lives. Ishtiyaq Rasool Beigh himself has donated blood 26 times, setting an example of selfless service.
– Women Welfare Programs: Financial assistance is provided to orphaned and underprivileged girls from across districts to support their education up to the 12th grade.
– Disaster Relief Efforts: The trust has been at the forefront during natural calamities like earthquakes, snow avalanches, floods, cloudbursts, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it was the 2014 Kashmir floods, the Ladakh flash floods, or the Waltingoo Nand calamity, the trust has tirelessly provided aid and relief to victims.
What sets the G.R. Memorial Trust apart is its self-reliant model. The trustees bear all expenses themselves, without any government aid or public charity. This selfless approach reflects the deep commitment of Fatimah Rasool Beigh and her family to the cause of humanity.
On December 14, 2024, Fatimah Rasool Beigh departed from this world, leaving behind a luminous legacy of service and compassion. Her passing marks the end of an era, as the candle that once threw light on the lives of countless individuals has now been extinguished.

As we remember this remarkable woman, we pray for her eternal peace and for Allah to grant her the highest place in Jannah. May her legacy continue through her son Ishtiyaq Rasool Beigh, who carries forward her mission of serving humanity with the same dedication and spirit.
