New Delhi, Jan, 31: Former India skipper Virat Kohli has made his much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy, playing for Delhi against Railways from January 30 onwards in the 2024-25 season, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, unlike his hefty international earnings, the Indian batting legend will receive a comparatively modest fee for this domestic match.

Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy match fee is surprisingly low

As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) domestic pay structure, players who have featured in 20 to 40 Ranji Trophy matches earn Rs 50,000 per day.

Having played 23 Ranji matches and scored 1,547 runs so far, Virat Kohli falls into this category, meaning he will earn Rs 50,000 for the game. This pales in comparison to his annual Rs 7 crore contract as an A+ grade player for Team India or the Rs 15 lakh he receives per Test match.

Virat Kohli eyeing comeback amid form struggles

Virat Kohli has been enduring a rough patch with the bat, with 2024 proving to be a challenging year. His performances in the T20 World Cup and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia were below expectations.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) urged senior players to participate in the Ranji Trophy to regain form. Rohit Sharma has already played a match for Mumbai, and now Kohli will take the field for Delhi in hopes of rediscovering his rhythm ahead of future international assignments.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to make their comeback for India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, followed by ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Their performances in ICC Champions Trophy will play a major role in determining their future with the Indian cricket team.(ABP)
