Kupwara, Feb 9: Director Fisheries Jammu & Kashmir, A. M. Tak, along with Joint Director Fisheries (North), Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, conducted a comprehensive visit to District Kupwara to assess fisheries infrastructure, distribute financial assistance, and promote modern aquaculture practices.
The visit commenced at the Assistant Director Fisheries Office, Kupwara, where they were warmly welcomed by Assistant Director Fisheries, Kupwara, Dr. Salman Rauoof Chalkoo. During the event, they jointly distributed cheques worth ₹21 lakhs to the fishermen community under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for livelihood and nutritional support. Additionally, cheques worth ₹32 lakhs were provided to beneficiaries for the establishment of live fish vending centers under PMMSY, ensuring improved market accessibility for fish farmers.
At the Carp Fish Farm in Shuloora, they stocked the newly established carp pond, constructed under the Capex Budget, reinforcing the department’s commitment to expanding aquaculture infrastructure.
Moving forward, at the Carp Fish Farm in Bohipora, they conducted a survey for the establishment of modern aquaculture practices, particularly focusing on implementing a Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) to boost sustainable and high-yield fish farming.
At the Trout Rearing Unit in Kutlari, Director Fisheries J&K distributed cheques to newly selected beneficiaries under PMMSY, amounting to ₹8.80 lakhs for the general category and ₹9.90 lakhs for the women category, and also encouraging private-sector trout farming A M Tak also distributed farm implements to newly selected farmers selected under the PMMSY . Additionally, they reviewed the sanctioning and commissioning of the Kutlari farm upgradation under the NABARD scheme, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region’s fisheries infrastructure.
The visit concluded at the Carp Fish Farm in Kohru, where they stocked the newly established carp pond, constructed under the Capex Budget, further reinforcing efforts to strengthen fisheries development in the district.
This visit highlighted the Department of Fisheries’ continuous commitment to supporting fishermen, improving aquaculture infrastructure, and introducing modern fisheries practices to enhance fish production and economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir.
