In 4-years, Jammu receives more tourists than Kashmir: Economic Survey

‘Number of foreigners visiting Valley up by 300%’

Srinagar, Mar 06: Kashmir has received 80 per cent less tourists compared to Jammu in the past four years.

The Economic Survey 2024-25, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), revealed that in 2021, Jammu received a tourist footfall of 1,06,50,757 while Kashmir in the same year witnessed a tourist arrival of 6,65,777.

A total of 1,13,16,534 tourists visited J&K in 2021, the survey reveals.

As per the details, Kashmir in the subsequent years including 2022, 2023 and 2024 witnessed 80 per cent less tourist footfall compared to Jammu.

The Economic Survey revealed that Jammu recorded a total tourist arrival of 1,62,10,875 in 2022 while Kashmir received only 26,73,442.

As many as 1,88,84,317 tourists visited J&K in 2022, the survey reveals.

In 2023, Jammu received a total footfall of 1,80,24,176 compared to 31,55,835 in Kashmir, thereby a total of 2,11,80,011 tourists arrived in Jammu and Kashmir in the particular year.

In 2024, 2,00,91,379 tourists visited Jammu while Kashmir recorded only 34,98,702 tourist arrivals, including both domestic and foreigners.

The figures include 5,11,922 Amarnath yatris during 2024 and 94,55,605 Vaishno Devi yatris during 2024.

Moreover, in the four subsequent years from 2021 till 2024, Kashmir witnessed more foreign tourists compared to Jammu with the Economic Survey revealing that 1,614 foreigners visited Kashmir in 2021 compared to only 36 in Jammu.

In 2022, Kashmir received 19,947 foreign tourists compared to only 38 in Jammu. In 2023, Kashmir witnessed a footfall of 37,678 foreign tourists compared to only 17,649 in Jammu while in 2024, Kashmir received 43,654 foreign tourists compared to 21,798 in Jammu.

As per the survey, the number of foreign tourists has risen more than 300%.

The 3rd Tourism Working Meeting of the G20, held in Srinagar from May 22nd to 24th 2023, brought J&K into the global spotlight, marking a crucial moment for its tourism sector.
