Srinagar, Mar 15, : Amid controversy over the absence of a specific timeline for the Cabinet Sub-Committee reviewing the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday clarified that the panel has been given six months to complete its report.

Responding to concerns raised by National Conference MP Rahullah Mehdi and others, Abdullah stated that the timeline was set following his meeting with a group of job aspirants who had expressed grievances over the existing reservation rules.

“The Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to examine the complex issue of reservations in recruitment has been given a six-month timeline to complete its report. This was decided after my meeting with concerned job aspirants,” the Chief Minister said.
He acknowledged that the initial government order establishing the sub-committee did not mention the timeframe, calling it an “oversight” that would be corrected. However, he assured that the panel is actively working within the stipulated period.

This clarification comes after Mehdi questioned whether the absence of a deadline in the official response was a clerical error or a deliberate move to mislead job aspirants. The issue had sparked criticism, with Mehdi warning of political consequences if the government was seen as betraying the trust of students who had placed faith in its assurances.[KNT]
