Kupwara: 27 March : In a resolute effort to curb drug trafficking, Kupwara Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant consignment of narcotics during a surprise naka checking at Halmatpora.
During routine patrolling, a sudden checkpoint was strategically established at Halmatpora. As part of the inspection, an Eeco vehicle (Registration No. JK09B-6928) traveling from Halmatpora towards Kupwara was signaled to stop. Instead of complying, the driver made a desperate attempt to flee but was swiftly intercepted and overpowered by the alert police personnel.
Upon preliminary questioning, the driver was identified as Akhtar Hussain Mir, son of Gh. Hassan Mir, a resident of Kupwara. A thorough search led to the recovery of 61 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession, confirming his involvement in illicit narcotics trade.
Consequently, an FIR (No. 85/2025) under relevant sections of law has been lodged at Police Station Kupwara, and further investigation is in progress to uncover the larger network behind this illegal activity.
