Kulgam, May 2: In a decisive action against illegal encroachments, the Municipal Council Kulgam today launched a demolition drive to reclaim state land that had been unlawfully occupied within the town. The drive was led by Zahid Sajad, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Kulgam, along with his enforcement team.

Several unauthorized structures were demolished during the operation, resulting in the retrieval of valuable state land. The initiative is part of the council’s broader campaign to curb illegal constructions and safeguard public assets.

CEO Zahid Sajad stated that the issue had been discussed with the Tehsildar Kulgam, and a joint inspection team—comprising officials from both the Revenue Department and the Municipal Council—will soon be constituted. “This team will conduct comprehensive field inspections within the municipal limits to identify cases of encroachment on state land,” he said.

He further added, “A detailed list of violators will be prepared following the inspections, and strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.”

In a firm message to encroachers, Zahid Sajad urged them to voluntarily vacate illegally occupied land. “It is advisable for violators to remove the encroachments on their own. Otherwise, legal proceedings will be initiated,” he warned.

He also noted that the reclaimed land will be used for developmental purposes, including projects aimed at improving public infrastructure and services across the town.

The demolition drive underscores the administration’s continued commitment to enforcing urban planning regulations and protecting public land for the benefit of the wider community.
