Singpora, July 28: In a collective effort to combat the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth, the Government High School Singhpora and Police Station Mirgund in collaboration with Youth Committee Singhpora
organized a comprehensive Drug De-Addiction Awareness Programme on Monday.
The event, held within the premises of Government High School Singhpora, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, teachers, parents, and local residents. The programme aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage preventive action within communities. They later took out rally in the area in which students participated.
Headmaster of Government High School Singhpora expressed concern over the increasing drug-related cases in the region.
She stressed the importance of educational institutions and civil society working hand-in-hand to guide the youth towards a healthy and productive future.
Chief Guest SDPO Pattan Shahijahan Choudhary, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the critical role of community involvement in the fight against drugs.
“The police alone cannot win this battle,” he said.
“It is through active participation of youth, educators, and families that we can create a shield against the rising threat of substance abuse. Let us pledge to be the first line of defence for our children.”
SDPO Pattan also assured continued support from the police in conducting such awareness programmes across the subdivision.
Officers from Police Station Mirgund including DO Muneer Ahmad shared real-life examples of how substance abuse is affecting families and society at large.
He also urged the participants to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling or usage in their neighbourhoods.
Representatives from the Youth Committee Singhpora spoke passionately about the role of young people in shaping a drug-free society. They encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports, cultural activities, and volunteer programs as a means to stay away from harmful influences.
The programme concluded with a pledge by students and community members to stand united against drug abuse and to work collectively in promoting awareness and support for those in need of de-addiction services.
Local residents appreciated the initiative and called for more such awareness campaigns to be held in schools and public spaces to safeguard the future generation from the scourge of drug addiction.
