According to officials, the Basenter River in Samba has crossed the evacuation level, flowing at 9.0 feet, which is the highest water level ever recorded for the stream. The Devak River in the same district has risen above the danger mark of 4.3 feet and is only six inches below the evacuation level. Bein Nallah in Samba is also flowing close to its alert level of 3.3 feet.

In Udhampur, the Tawi River is flowing seven feet above the evacuation level, the highest alarm category, raising serious concerns for low-lying areas.

Kathua district according to the information provided by the ‘Kashmir Weather’ has also witnessed alarming water rise, with the Tarnah River touching the danger mark of 4.6 feet. The Ujh Nallah at Panjtirthi and Kathua has crossed the evacuation level, while the Ravi River continues to flow near its danger mark.

In Jammu district, the Tawi River has reached the alert level of 14 feet. The Chenab River at Akhnoor is flowing at 30 feet 8 inches, just 1 foot 4 inches below the flood alert mark. Balole Nalla, however, remains in the safe zone, flowing nearly five feet below its alert level.

Authorities said the situation in Poonch district remains under control, with the Suran River, Poonch River, and Mendhar Nallah all flowing well below their respective alert levels.

Officials have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, as water levels in major rivers and tributaries may rise further if heavy rainfall continues. [KNT]
