Anantnag, Aug 30: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Anantnag, Mubashir Jan, has completed a technical safety audit of school transport in the district for the year 2024-25, covering 588 buses across 16 private schools.
As per news agency Kashmir News Corner—KNC, the audit confirmed that all buses inspected were equipped with essential safety features including CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and speed limiting devices (SLDs).
ARTO conducted 41 inspection checks of 41 vehicles.
Only fit vehicles have been permitted to operate in compliance with AIS-063 safety protocols, while schools have also been asked to maintain active Road Safety Clubs.
The technical team has also mandated video documentation, including GPS-tagged photos and videos, for driving license tests, vehicle fitness checks, school transport audits, and awareness programmes to ensure transparency and accountability.
Strict enforcement action such as vehicle seizures, blacklisting, and fines for overloading will continue against violators, and warnings have already been issued in some cases.
Among the institutions audited, schools like GD Goenka with 24 vehicles were specifically checked under AIS-063 and IRC norms. Authorities said the exercise is aimed at enhancing student safety and streamlining compliance with transport regulations. (KNC)
