The move comes days after the minister of education Sakina Itoo said that the routine academics in schools was badly hit during the current academic session in wake of the war like situation and recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

The minister said that the government had to close the schools during the war like situation (Operation Sindoor) and the recent flood like situation which had an impact in the completion of the syllabus. The minister said that the government was taking feedback from students and parents and will take measures to address the situation in the interest of the students.

Secretary JKBOSE, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh told GK, that it was too early to announce any relaxation in exams for students in their upcoming annual exams. “This is not the right time to decide about the syllabus relaxation. It is too early to decide as the academic session is going on and we still have one and a half months left,” Secretary JKBOSE said.

He said the annual Board exams will tentatively commence after the first week of November this year. “To begin with, class 10th exams will begin first followed by the commencement of class 11th and 12th examinations,” he said. He said the Board will assess the status of syllabus completion once the session concludes. “Right now it is too early to decide about it. Some stakeholders have brought it to the notice of JKBOSE but we are seeing the variables of the decision,” he said. He said the schools have one and a half months to complete the syllabus. “We will see how much of the syllabus will be completed till the last day of this session. We are also assessing for how many days schools remained closed during Operation Sindoor, heat wave and flood like situation,” he said. Secretary JKBOSE said that all the aspects are being taken care of by the government.

“Announcing anything right now would be too early. It is better to take the decision at the right time,” he said. He said the last date for submission of the examination forms was September 19, 2025 while the last date with late fees has been fixed as September 29, 2025. “Around 99.5 percent of students have submitted their exam forms. The date sheet will be notified a few days after the process of submission of exam forms gets completed,” he said. Meanwhile, as the new academic session is scheduled to commence from November, all eyes are on JKBOSE for timely distribution of textbooks in schools across Kashmir.

Secretary JKBOSE said they were hopeful to distribute the textbooks before the announcement of winter vacations for the schools. “The printing of textbooks is expected to be completed by November 20, 2025. Immediately after that we will start the distribution of textbooks in schools. We are hopeful that before the commencement of winter vacations, we will be able to distribute the textbooks,” he said.

Secretary JKBOSE said all the efforts will be given to hold the exams and distribute the textbooks on time. “We are doing whatever is humanly possible,” he said. (GK)
