Budgam, Oct 1: Budgam Police on Wednesday attached the head office of the proscribed organisation Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) at Rehmatabad, Hyderpora. The attachment, carried out under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), reflects a continuing crackdown on entities accused of subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Late separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani used the said office, and it was the hub of political activity.

The attached property includes a three-storey building constructed on 1 kanal and 1 marla of land, identified under Khasra number 946 and Khata number 306. Police said the building had been functioning as the central office of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, an organisation banned by the Government of India for its alleged role in promoting separatist ideology and facilitating militant activities in the Valley.

Officials confirmed that the attachment was linked to FIR No. 08/2024 registered at Police Station Budgam under various provisions of UAPA. Acting on evidence gathered during investigation, and after obtaining due sanction from the competent legal authority, Budgam Police moved forward with the attachment. The procedure was carried out in accordance with law, ensuring transparency and adherence to due process.

The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, founded by late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has long been under the scanner of security agencies. The group was formally banned along with Jamaat-e-Islami and several other outfits after being accused of links with militancy and for allegedly promoting anti-national activities. Since the ban, several of its leaders and cadres have faced arrests, property seizures, and investigations under UAPA. [KNT]
