In a statement issued here, Bali said, “We had hoped that in the first year itself, the Centre would deliver on its commitment regarding statehood, but that did not happen. However, restoring the Darbar Move is a positive step that reconnects the region with its historic administrative and cultural legacy.”

The Darbar Move was a practice initiated in 1872 by Maharaja Gulab Singh, under which the capital of Jammu and Kashmir would shift between Jammu during winter and Srinagar during summer. The move was intended to maintain administrative convenience and promote balanced regional development.

Bali noted that reviving this historic tradition would significantly benefit trade, tourism, and local businesses across both regions. “The Darbar Move was not only a matter of governance but also a bridge between the two major regions of our Union Territory. Restoring it will rejuvenate economic activity and strengthen the bond between Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

He further urged the government to take forward this initiative with proper planning and logistical support to ensure smooth transitions and minimal inconvenience to the public and administration.
