Anantnag, Nov 07: In a major crackdown against the misuse of SIM cards by terrorists, their associates and criminal networks, Anantnag Police on Friday launched a district-wide inspection drive targeting SIM card vendors.
Multiple police teams conducted surprise inspections at various locations to ensure strict adherence to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines. The focus of the drive was on verification of customer documents, proper implementation of Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and vendor licence compliance to prevent fraudulent issuance of SIM cards.
Officials said vendors were sensitised about their legal responsibilities and clearly warned that any negligence or violation of norms would invite strict legal action.
Police said the initiative is part of a sustained effort to prevent the use of SIM cards in terror-related communication, cybercrime, online fraud, impersonation and misinformation activities. The drive also aims to ensure transparency in the telecom ecosystem and protect communication systems from misuse.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and national security, stating that surveillance and similar drives will continue to ensure peace and stability in the district.
