Kulgam, Nov 8:The Inter-District Under-14 Boys Karate Championship 2025 commenced today at L/NK Shri Nazir Ahmad Wani Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Kulgam. The event was inaugurated by Majabeena Akther, wife of Ashoka Chakra Awardee (Sena Medal Bar) Shaheed Nazir Ahmad Wani, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of DYSSO Kulgam Raja Yaqoob Ali Khan, Zonal Physical Education Officers, officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department, and school staff. Teams from 12 districts of Jammu and Kashmir are participating in this major sporting event.

Organized by the Youth Services and Sports Department, Kulgam, under the supervision of the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K UT, the championship aims to provide a platform for talented young karate players who have excelled at inter-school and inter-zone levels. The best performers from this event will go on to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the national level.

Speaking on the occasion, Majabeena Akther highlighted the government’s continued support for sports and young athletes. “Sports are not just about winning,” she said. “They build discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. The government is committed to ensuring that our youth receive full support and facilities to rise from school to national levels.”

Encouraging greater participation of girls in karate and other sports, she added, “Like boys, girls should also take part actively. Karate is not just a sport — it’s a powerful tool for self-defence, confidence, and empowerment.”

She also urged the Sports Department to organize such events regularly in Kulgam to help young players showcase their skills and bring pride to the Union Territory and the nation.

The event concluded with enthusiastic participation and encouragement for budding athletes who are set to compete over the next few days.
